๐ Introduction
DualBlur is a dual-camera recorder and a photo/video face-blur editor that runs entirely on your device. There is no DualBlur server, no account, no cloud component. This page describes โ mostly โ the things this app does not do.
๐ซ Data we don't collect
- No analytics or telemetry of any kind
- No user accounts, emails, or identifiers
- No advertising IDs (IDFA), device fingerprints, or marketing profiles
- No crash reports sent off your device
- No usage statistics, no event tracking
๐พ Data stored locally
The app keeps a few things on your device, and only on your device:
- App preferences (layout, blur settings, zoom levels, picture-in-picture position) via Apple's standard
UserDefaults - Whether this install has DualBlur Pro (a yes/no flag, so the app works offline), via
UserDefaults - Photos and videos you capture or blur, saved to your Photos library through Apple's
PHPhotoLibraryAPI - While you edit in Blur Library, a working copy of the opened photo or video in the app's temporary folder โ deleted when you leave the item
- Blur Library projects: for each photo or video you edit, the settings you chose (blur style, intensity, coverage, body cover, emoji, label style, voice effect, the covers you drew and the faces you left visible โ stored as positions, never as face data) plus a small thumbnail, in the app's own folder on your device. Projects are keyed by the item's Photos identifier; the photo or video itself is never copied into a project. You can remove any project in Blur Library, and uninstalling the app removes them all
None of this leaves your phone. Uninstalling the app removes the preferences and projects; your captures stay in Photos because they belong to you.
๐ซฅ Blur Library
Blur Library shows your Photos library inside the app so you can open any photo or video for blurring. To do that it asks for Photo Library read access the first time you open Blur Library โ not at launch. This access is optional: with full access the app lists your whole library; with limited access it lists only the items you selected and offers a "Manage selection" button to change them; if you decline, Blur Library falls back to Apple's system picker, which hands the app only the single item you choose. Either way the library is only ever displayed on your screen and read for the items you open โ nothing is indexed, catalogued or uploaded. Detection and blurring run on the device. Saving creates a new item in Photos; the original is never modified. Blurred copies carry no location or camera metadata from the original. What you choose for an item is kept as a project on your device only (see "Data stored locally").
๐ฐ๏ธ Network access
DualBlur makes no network calls of its own. Detection, blurring, recording and editing all work fully offline. The only network activity is Apple's own StoreKit, which the app uses to show prices, complete a purchase, and confirm whether this install has DualBlur Pro โ that traffic goes to Apple, not to us, and contains no photos, videos or usage data.
๐ณ Purchases
DualBlur Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple handles payment, receipts, renewals and refunds. We never see your payment details, and the app does not send purchase information anywhere except to Apple. If you bought DualBlur while it was a paid app, the app reads Apple's original purchase record on your device to keep Pro unlocked โ nothing is transmitted.
๐งฑ Third-party services
None. No SDKs, no analytics frameworks, no crash reporters, no advertising libraries, no payment processors other than Apple. It's pure native iOS, built only on Apple's frameworks.
๐ Permissions
iOS will ask you to grant three permissions required for the camera to function:
- Camera โ "DualBlur records video from front and back cameras simultaneously."
- Microphone โ "DualBlur records audio with your videos."
- Photo Library (add only) โ "DualBlur saves photos and videos you capture."
One more is asked for the first time you open Blur Library, and it is optional:
- Photo Library (read, full or limited) โ "DualBlur shows your photos and videos so you can blur faces and bodies in them. Nothing leaves your device."
These are the only permissions the app requests. The "add only" permission lets the app save your captures and blurred copies. The read permission is used for one thing: showing your library inside Blur Library and opening the items you tap there. You can grant it for your whole library or for a selection you control, and you can decline it โ Blur Library then uses Apple's system photo picker, which hands the app only the items you choose and needs no permission.
๐๏ธ Content ownership
Anything you record or blur belongs to you. Captures and blurred copies save to your Photos library and the app has no further access to them. DualBlur does not transmit your content anywhere; face and body detection runs on the device, only on what you are recording or editing at that moment.
๐ Face and body detection
DualBlur covers faces โ and, optionally, whole bodies โ in your captures and in the photos and videos you open in Blur Library. To do this it uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to detect where people appear in each frame.
- What is detected โ rectangular coordinates (bounding boxes) marking the location of faces, and, when full-body cover is on, a per-pixel silhouette mask marking which pixels belong to a person. Optionally, when you tap something in Blur Library, an outline mask of that object. Nothing else.
- What is not done โ no face recognition or identification. DualBlur does not create or store faceprints, face templates, facial geometry, or any biometric identifier. It cannot determine who a person is and does not infer age, gender, emotion, or any other attribute.
- Use โ the detected rectangles and masks position the cover (blur, pixelation, a solid patch or an emoji) and an optional cosmetic on-screen label over that area, so the person is obscured. That is the only use.
- Processing location โ entirely on your device. Detection never contacts a server; the app makes no network calls of its own. Tap-to-cover on iOS 27 uses an Apple on-device model that iOS downloads from Apple; your photos are not sent anywhere in the process.
- Retention โ none for detection data. Rectangles and masks exist only momentarily in memory while a frame is processed, are continuously overwritten, and are discarded within a fraction of a second. They never leave the device. The one thing a Blur Library project keeps is your own choices: the covers you drew and the picture positions of faces you chose to leave visible โ plain coordinates (and, for tap-to-cover, the outline you tapped), not detection output about who is in the picture.
- Sharing โ never. No face or body data is shared with the developer or any third party, because none is collected, stored, or transmitted.
Only the finished photo or video โ with faces already covered โ is saved, and only to your own Photos library.
๐ถ Children's privacy
The app does not knowingly collect data from anyone โ children included โ because it doesn't collect data at all. Given the camera and recording nature of the app, parental discretion is advised.
๐ ๏ธ Your rights and controls
- Revoke any permission any time via iOS Settings โ DualBlur
- Remove any Blur Library project from its Projects tab; uninstalling the app removes all preferences and projects from your device
- Your captures remain yours, in your Photos library, under your control
